1) Press Play (or the space button) to begin the song you have dragged onto the loop. Note: you'll see the GarageBand cursor moving as the music plays. 2) Stop the song a few seconds in (by pressing play again or hitting the space button). 3) Before splitting, MAKE SURE the track with the song in it is selected (see pic). In GarageBand on your iPhone, set the length of the song section to Automatic to import the entire audio or MIDI file; otherwise, only the portion of the file that fits the current song section is imported. After importing the audio or MIDI file, you can make the song section longer. Though I have a problem when importing long song-mini-files into Garageband. After about 8:30 all of the instruments just stop playing and I can't finish the song. Actually, the instruments stop but the Garageband-display tells me that the instruments are playing one single note each. Singers can sing along to tracks created in GarageBand using the iPad or iPhone's built-in microphone. For better results, you'll probably want to plug a microphone into the dock or headset.
You should be able to access the songs in the Music.app on your iPhone or iPad using the Loop Browser in GarageBand.

Import a song from the Music app
You can import songs from the Music app on your device into Tracks view. You can import a song to an existing Audio Recorder or Guitar Amp track, or have GarageBand create a new Audio Recorder track for the song.
Songs imported from the Music app do not follow tempo changes you make in GarageBand.

After importing the song, you can make the song section longer, then resize the imported region so that more of the song plays.
